SolBe Families,

Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you, but with that little “Arctic Blast/May Snow Dusting” this past weekend, I am craving SUMMER. I need the beach and a glass of Rosé now and it does not seem to be coming soon enough.

Let’s bring July home with this fun firework stamping project (complete with a glitter bomb, just when you thought you got out mess-free).

This History of Fireworks read-along is a nice complement to this project!

Project of the Day: Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks!

Materials

  • 2-3 cardboard toilet paper rolls
  • Paper
  • Paint
  • Glitter- not a necessity, but makes everything a little better!

Step One

Lay out all of your materials. If you do not have toilet paper roll insides, the inside of paper towels (cut into three) will work just as well! Remember: organizing the materials will help guide your child without hindering their creative spirit.

Step Two

Younger friends: parents will step in and cut 1.5-inch slits all around one side of the toilet paper roll. If you are going to paint several colors, you can cut both sides of the roll for more options without mixing paint.

Older friends: we are always, always, working on developing our fine motor skills and coordination. Cutting is an age-old exercise; the kiddos are developing muscles. There are also benefits to coordination as they are learning how to track with their eyes at the same time as the movement.

Step Three

At this point, this activity becomes a stamping exercise. The kiddos can dip the rolls into the different paint colors and then blot them onto their sheet. You can also have them use a paintbrush and paint the ends before blotting…whatever they are inspired to do!

Step Four

Glitter Time! Not a bad idea to place something underneath this masterpiece as we all know glitter gets everywhere. That being said, embrace the mess! Kiddos love to sprinkle the glitter and it ignites the fireworks and gives them the majestic sparkle we all adore in real life.

Most important direction, as always: HAVE FUN!

More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome!

Above all, be well and stay healthy!
