SolBe Families,
Science Friday!
I have been wanting to conduct this experiment for weeks! So here we go! Put on your lab coats and goggles and we are off!
Project of the Day: Lava Lamp Experiment
Materials
- Clear Container or Bottle
- 2 parts Vegetable Oil
- 1 part water
- Food Coloring
The Experiment
Watch this video for step-by-step project directions and ways to communicate the science behind this experiment to your kiddos. If you try this at home, share your pictures and videos with us on Instagram @solbe.learning so we can see how your experiment turned out!
Step One
Add two parts vegetable oil to your clear container
Step 2
Mix food coloring with one part water. I am using parts as the ratio depends on the size of your container. Be certain to leave some space at the top, as the antacid will bubble up!
Step 3
Pour water/food mixture into the oil and let the mixture seperate.
Step 4
Fun part! Add the antacid (you can add it whole or break it up) and watch the MAGIC happen!
Most important direction, as always: HAVE FUN!
More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome!
Above all, be well and stay healthy!
