SolBe Families,
Talk about sparking joy! This activity is fun for all and the final product is simply magical. Enjoy the process and be sure to let the kiddos explore the materials…shaving cream is always a wonderful sensory exploration!
Project of the Day: Shaving Cream Marbling!
Materials
- Tin or Pan or Tray
- Shaving Cream
- Paint or Food Coloring
- Tongue Depressors or Paint Brush
Step One
Lay out all of your materials. First, spray a layer of shaving cream on your tray or in your tin. If you have younger kiddies, shaving cream is so much fun and is a wonderful sensory material! Sit them down on a towel with a small bowl of shaving cream and watch them enjoy the messiness.
If you use your tongue depressor to smooth the shaving cream before applying the paint, the marbling will come out a bit more even.
Step Two
Use your food coloring or paint and spread over the layer of shaving cream. Any colors will do!
Step Three
The fun! Use the bottom part of your paintbrush or the tongue depressor to marble the paint. For the best result, do not over mix the colors (you want to see plenty of white shaving cream coming through).
Step Four
Place your sheet of paper flat on top of the shaving cream and paint. Press straight down firmly on the paper, but not so hard that the shaving cream comes over the sides. It is as if the paper is floating on top- but all corners and sides are making contact with the shaving cream design.
Step Five
Grab a corner of the paper and pull the paper off of the shaving cream. Place to the side to dry for at least three minutes.
Step Six
Use the tongue depressor to scrape the shaving cream off the paper- almost like a squeegee! You will be left with your print.
!
Optional Step Seven
You can scrape off the colored layer of shaving cream in your tin and make more prints! You can also add additional colors and see how the different combinations create beautiful results!
Most important direction, as always: HAVE FUN!
More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome!
Above all, be well and stay healthy!
